About me
Pompeu Fabra University graduate in Business/Economics and Law --> Carnegie Mellon University and CMU Crew alumnus (Spring 2015) --> Statistics & OR Master's at Barcelona Tech --> PhD student in Statistics at UW-Madison.
If there's one thing I learnt from my time in Crew and CMU is that if you work hard and are able to keep your motivation up for an extended period of time, dreams are within reach.
Forever thankful to the people that have inspired me so much along the way.
My fields of interest are quite diverse:
· Academic/Professional: Mathematics, Statistics, Probability, Finance, Game Theory, Law/Justice, elementary Physics. Finally, I find psychology, neuroscience and sociology interesting as well (and in fact, an elective course on sociology that I took in High School was part of the reason why I wanted to study Business Administration).
It's a pity the day only has 24 hours and/or the human life expectancy is not large enough to explore all the interesting fields of knowledge one comes across!
· Sports: Pretty much all kinds, but above all soccer, table tennis, and almost any water sport (surf, swimming, free-diving). Due to time constraints as well as proven cognitive & health benefits, running is my "staple" sport, 10 km (about 50 minutes at my current stamina level), which I do every other day. Lately I took on rowing, which I enjoyed during my time at Carnegie Mellon, as it perfectly represents some of the values I live by: sacrifice, commitment, courage, honor.
· Others: Music (very diverse styles, from Classical music to Country, or the last hits of the summer), chess, reading, learning foreign languages (I'm fluent in English, can hold a basic conversation in Portuguese and French, and understand some Italian from combining Catalan, Spanish and Portuguese), travelling (for example, I've visited almost all European countries from Portugal to Ukraine both included). I used to write about investing ideas and financial analysis on Seeking Alpha, winning the Editor's pick award for one of my published articles.
